着物のアップサイクルを通して「もったいない」を形にしてきた私たちが、次に出会ったのが、廃棄されてきたバナナの茎から生まれる天然繊維でした。
この足袋ソックスは、いつもの暮らしの中で無理なく選べる、サスティナブルな一足。履くだけで、捨てられていた資源を活かす循環に参加できる靴下です。

【バナナ繊維とは？】
バナナ繊維は、食用バナナを収穫したあとに残る「茎」から採れる天然繊維です。
バナナは一度実を収穫すると茎が切り倒され、これまで多くが廃棄されてきました。世界では、その量が年間およそ10億トンにもなるといわれています。

バナナ繊維は、そうした廃棄される茎を活用して生まれる素材です。食用バナナの副産物を使うため、繊維を得るために新たな農地を広げたり、追加で水・農薬・エネルギーを多く使ったりする必要がありません。
「捨てられていたもの」に新しい価値を見出す、循環型の考え方から生まれた繊維です。

茎の外皮を取り除き、内側の繊維質をほぐし、乾燥・精錬して糸へと加工されます。麻に似たさらりとした風合いと、天然素材らしい通気性が特徴です。

まだ研究開発が進んでいる途中の新しい素材だからこそ、これから用途や可能性が広がっていくことが期待されています。
この商品では、その第一歩として、毎日の暮らしに身近な「靴下」という形に落とし込みました。

【ポイント】
形は、親指が分かれた足袋型。足指が自然に動きやすく、歩行時の安定感やすっきりとした履き心地につながります。下駄や草履はもちろん、サンダルや足割れシューズにも合わせやすく、和装にも洋装にもなじむデザインです。

色は、使いやすさを重視した黒一色。汚れが目立ちにくく、きちんと感があり、服装を選ばず取り入れられます。オフィスにも、普段のお出かけにも、カジュアルな和装にも合わせやすい一足です。

環境のために我慢して選ぶのではなく、見た目・履き心地・使いやすさでも自然に手に取りたくなること。

【洗濯表示】
着用中の水分、摩擦により他の物に色移りする場合があります。
洗濯時は同色系の物と一緒に洗ってください。濡れた状態で他の物と重ね合わせたり、放置しないでください。
長時間水に浸けず、洗濯後はすぐに脱水し形を整えて干してください。
漂白剤のご使用は避けてください。
爪や尖ったもので引っ掛けないようご注意ください。
素材特性上、着用や洗濯時の摩擦により毛羽立ち、毛玉が発生する場合があります。
洗濯の際は、裏返しにしてネットをご使用ください。

【FAQ】
Q.22-24cm以外の足サイズでも履けますか？
A.表記サイズはレディース22–24cmですが、伸縮性はあります。実際に、実行者である私自身も足のサイズが25.5cmですが問題なく何度も着用・洗濯できております。
ただし、フィット感や履き心地には個人差があり、足の形や好みによって感じ方・耐久性が異なる場合があります。その点はあらかじめご了承ください。

Q.バナナ繊維100%ではないんですか？
A.はい、現在の技術ではバナナ由来の繊維のみでソックスを作ることが難しいため、適した素材と混用しています。今後、素材の認知が広がり研究や技術が進めば、よりバナナ繊維の割合を高めた製品を生み出せる可能性もあり、私たちもその未来に期待しています。

Q.チクチクしたり、硬くありませんか？
A.正直にお伝えすると、手で触ったときの感触だけで言えば、他の多くの靴下に比べ少し表面はざらつく印象があります。ただし、実際に履いてみると、私自身は着用中に内側のチクチク感が気になることはありませんでした。※感じ方には個人差があります。

[What is banana fiber?]
Banana fiber is a natural fiber made from the stems left after bananas are harvested for food.
Once a banana plant bears fruit, its stem is cut down, and many of these stems have traditionally been discarded. It is said that around 1 billion tons of banana stems are discarded worldwide every year.

Banana fiber makes use of these discarded stems. Since it comes from a byproduct of food production, it does not require new farmland, or large additional amounts of water, pesticides, or energy just to produce the fiber.
It is a material born from the idea of giving new value to something that was once thrown away.

The outer layers of the stem are removed, and the inner fibers are carefully separated, dried, refined, and spun into yarn. The resulting fiber has a crisp, linen-like texture and the breathability of a natural material.

Banana fiber is still a developing material, which means its possibilities are continuing to grow.
For this product, we chose to introduce it in a familiar everyday form: socks.

The split-toe design allows your toes to move naturally and gives a clean, comfortable fit. They can be worn with kimono, sandals, split-toe shoes, or everyday outfits.

The simple black color is practical, easy to coordinate, and suitable for many occasions.
Rather than choosing sustainability as a compromise, these socks are made to be something you will naturally want to wear.

[Care Instructions]
Color may transfer due to moisture or friction during wear.
Please wash with similar colors.

Do not leave the socks wet or stacked with other items.
Avoid soaking for a long time. After washing, spin-dry promptly, reshape, and hang to dry.

Do not use bleach.
Be careful not to snag the fabric with nails or sharp objects.

Due to the nature of the material, friction from wearing or washing may cause fuzzing or pilling.
Please turn the socks inside out and use a laundry net when washing.

[FAQ]
Q. Can I wear them if my foot size is outside 22–24 cm?
A. The listed size is women’s 22–24 cm, but the socks do have stretch. I personally wear 25.5 cm shoes and have worn and washed them many times without issue.
However, fit, comfort, and durability may vary depending on foot shape and personal preference.

Q. Are they 100% banana fiber?
A. No. With current technology, it is difficult to make socks using only banana fiber, so it is blended with other suitable materials. As research and recognition of banana fiber continue to grow, we hope to see products with a higher banana fiber content in the future.

Q. Are they itchy or stiff?
A. To be honest, the surface may feel slightly rougher to the hand than many other socks. However, when actually worn, I personally did not feel any itching or discomfort on the inside.
